The School of Classical Ballet loves bringing Billings dancers excellent teachers and amazing opportunities to connect them to the dance world!
Monday, April 4, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 pm, SCB will host a Modern/Contemporary Master Class for intermediate and advanced dancers ages ten and up. SCB students who have their weekly Modern or Jazz during this time will have this class offered to them for free! All other dancers (including dancers from other studios) are invited as well with a cost of only $10. Dancers do not need to be auditioning for DanceItalia in order to take the master class.
What is extra special about this master class is that 12-17 year-old dancers will also have the opportunity to have this class be an audition to attend DanceItalia Young Artists Summer Intensive in Lucca, Italy this summer! 🌟 🇮🇹 🌟 Dancers who are interested in auditioning should learn about DanceItalia program by clicking below.
GUEST TEACHERS
Stefanie Nelson is the Founder and Artistic Director of Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup (SND) a contemporary performance group based in NYC, and DANCE ITALIA, a month-long, international, summer dance program in Lucca, IT, and Motore592, a new cultural center opening soon in Lucca, Italy.
Nelson’s work as a choreographer has been described as ‘instinctual, untamed, and edgy’ (Eva Yaa Asanantewaa) known for an intuitive approach that distills deeply personal ideas into highly kinetic, expressive, and provocative works of art, rooted in cross-media collaboration with artists working in music, video, and visual arts. Nelson brings her extensive experience in designing and teaching dance-based education programs both locally and internationally since 1997. Nelson leads the Dance Initiative at AHRC NYC, a disabilities service organization since 2015. With the New York Foundation for the Arts Nelson served as a Choreography panelist for their 2016 fellowship awards, as an Arts Administration mentor in 2018 & 2019, after having been identified by them as an ‘Emerging Leader’ in the field of Dance Arts Administration.
Maya Orchin has had her work presented in Canada, Russia, Poland, Italy, Israel, Germany and
throughout the United States. She was the choreographer for the immersive theater show
Post-Mortem in Montreal, Canada and was an artist in residence at PAF and S.P.A.M. Maya
was a choreographer and performer in the live podcast tour of ‘Israel Story’ that toured all over
the U.S. and Israel. As a performer she has worked with artists such as Luis Lara
Malvacias, Okwui Okpokwasili, Bill T Jones, Christine Bonansea, Davis Freeman, Zoe
Scofield, Madeline Hollander, Reut Shemesh, Lynn Neuman, Jody Oberfelder and
more. She was a performer in ‘Room 29’ on a European tour with musicians Jarvis
Cocker and Chilly Gonzales. Maya has been an assistant choreographer with
MOMAPS1 and NIKE. This August, her movement direction work will premiere in
Edinburgh, Scotland.
